You might like to know that you contributed your blood, sweat and tears to help keep this Commonwealth special:

First taxpayer supported public school in America Massachusetts 1636 (Dedham)

State (colony) that began the fight for independence Massachusetts 1775 (Lexington)

First state (colony) to force the British army from its soil Massachusetts 1776

First Written constitution in the world Massachusetts 1783

First state to abolish slavery Massachusetts 1783

First state to  create black regiment in Civil War Massachusetts 1863 (54th Regiment)

Only state to vote not to re-elect Richard Nixon, two years before his impeachment Massachusetts 1972

First state to recognize the right of same sex partners to marry Massachusetts 2004

First state to provide for universal health care Massachusetts 2006

And, of course, I’m hoping that Massachusetts will be the first state in the Union to pass the Healthy Workplace Bill.

Best wishes Retirees!
