HEALTHY WORKPLACE BILL (SB-699) TESTIFIED TO
On wednesday, January 27th, Professor David Yamada, myself and five other citizens testified before the Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development in favor of passing the “Healthy Workplace Bill” (Senate Bill 699, a SEIU/NAGE Bill Sponsored by Senator Joan Menard and written by Professor David Yamada, Suffolk Law). This Bill expands upon obligations of employers to prevent Workplace Bullying, remedy bullying in the workplace and provide for damages should the employer not honor their obligations under the law. It would expand our language in Article 6A (Mutual Respect).
I’m very proud to be a part of an effort in Massachusetts to become the first state to enact this Bill. It has already been introduced in 14 other states. We just might get it passed!
Anyone having an interest in joining an ever growing group of individuals dedicated to preventing Bullying in the Workplace, please email me at: gsorozan@nage.org. We’ll be needing more people to testify, write about their bullying experience, contact others and develop a helping network, among other things.
We’ve “moved the ball downfield”.
